In the framework of the Operational programme Slovenia-Austria 2007-2013, the Government Office for Local Self-Government and Regional Policy as the Managing authority has organised the Kick-off event on Friday, 29 August 2008, which was dedicated to the presentation of the Slovenia-Austria Operational Programme for the 2007-2013 programming period. The event was also attended by Minister Dr. Ivan Žagar, responsible for local self-government and regional policy, and the Austrian Federal Minister Mrs Heidrun Silhavy, responsible for regional policy and the Structural Funds. Mr Siegfried Schritttwieser, the representative of the Styrian federal state government accepted the invitation and was also present at the Event. More than 150 attendees from Austria and Slovenia, representing various institutes, development agencies, universities and municipalities and enterprises as well as companies interested in the participation in the programme were present at the event. Minister Dr Ivan Žagar pointed out at today’s presentation that the increase of funds opens even more opportunities, which is why he wishes a lot of successful and regional development-oriented projects in the future by including as many citizens, companies and institutions from both sides of the border as possible, and in particular that the entire population of this area would take advantage as much as possible of the opportunities offered by the European Union. Austrian federal minister Mrs Heidrun Silhavy has also stressed the importance of the cross-border cooperation between both countries, especially between the people who live and work in the border area. The second part of the Kick-off event was devoted to the informative workshop, where the Application pack published in the framework of the 1st Open Call for Proposals was presented. After the presentation of the Operational Programme Slovenia-Austria 2007-2013, the Managing Authority and the Joint Technical Secretariat introduced the 1st Open Call and the Application pack and forwarded explanations and instructions on how to fill in the forms. The conclusion of the event was devoted to the questions of the attendees; the dates for the following workshops planned for September were announced as well.
